Why the need for the Charles County Literacy Council
Today, 18–20% of American adults struggle with functional illiteracy. That means millions of people cannot:
- Understand medical directions
- Navigate public transportation
- Complete employment forms
- Help their children with schoolwork
- Vote confidently and independently
This is where the Charles County Literacy Council steps in. We provide free, confidential, one-on-one tutoring to adults who want to improve:
- Reading, writing and comprehension
- Basic math skills
- GED and NEDP preparation
- ASVAB scores to enter military service
- English language skills for new Americans
We’d like to extend a special thanks to our sponsors who made Trivia 2025 event such a success and we look forward in collaborating with you for 2026:
