About Us Charles County Literacy

Over the years we have tutored hundreds of adults in Charles County in achieving their goals. Here are some words of encouragement from our tutors and students.

CCLC Impact on Students

Sheila C., Age 52 wrote: “…I am a long time literacy student that has been working very diligently trying to improve myself.  I have come a long way but still have milestones that need continuous work.  I genuinely enjoyed the tutors who have worked with me.  My goals are to become a better writer and improve my vocabulary.”

Thomas, a thirty-something, first time dad, had this to say to his tutor about his experience so far:  “You make me feel really comfortable with opening up and you also make me feel really good when I learn something, and also your ways of getting the doubt out of my mind and replace it with motivation and encouragement that this is going to work for me……  I wanted to give up so many times but the passion I got from you and your willingness to help me through to keep going, I thank you for that.  I wish I had more time to dedicate to tutoring because I know I would be successful…….”

Tutor Stories

Tutor Barbara said this of her adult learner, Ronald, Age 21:“Recently I had the opportunity…. to tutor a very pleasant, dedicated young man in math to help prepare him for the Steamfitter’s Apprentice Test. He had taken the test in January 2020 and almost passed.  So he took the initiative to get help with math through this organization. We met every Monday night using Zoom from June 2020 through January 2021.  It was such a good feeling to work with a student with a specific goal and the bonus was – he passed the test with an 82% – much better than his first time. He is currently working as a steamfitter helper until more opportunities become available in the fall to be an apprentice….”
