About the Charles County Literacy Council |
Our Mission: The Charles County Literacy Council, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, provides free community-based one-on-one adult literacy tutoring to ensure that all adults have the access to quality education needed to fully realize their potential as individuals, parents, and citizens.
Our History: In 1964, the Charles County Literacy Council (CCLC) was formed to help tutor illiterate adults of Charles County. In 1987, CCLC incorporated and received non-profit 501(c) 3 status. It remained a small, all volunteer organization until 1988 when it hired a part-time Program Coordinator, an action that helped to significantly increase CCLC tutoring efforts. In order to maintain and grow its efforts, CCLC has received support from the Charles County Government, the United Way as a Partner and through the Combined Federal Campaign, fundraisers, and private donations and grants. Currently, CCLC has one paid part-time staff member, the Executive Director.
Our Board: List of Directors and Members.
Our Bylaws: Read the Charles County Literacy Council's bylaws.
Our Supporters: The United Way of Charles County continues to support CCLC as a Partner Agency. CCLC also receives a grant from the Charles County Government. CCLC is grateful for the support of the Charles County Board of Education which provides office space and the Southern Maryland Regional Library Association for IT support.
The following is a list of our 2007 Sponsors and Donors - We send out a huge "thank-you" to all of you. The mission and accomplishments of the Council are greatly enhanced by your support.
